6 Tips for Content Marketing

Did you know that 60% of marketers create one piece of content every day?

If it’s such an important part of marketing then maybe you need to start looking into ways to start paying attention to it too.

If you are struggling with creating engaging content or if you just want to make sure that what you are doing is right then this blog is for you.

Listed below are six tips to help you create the best kind of content to engage your customers and build a long term relationship with them. So without any further ado, let’s get right into it.

#1- Know why you’re writing something

You’re not supposed to create content just for the sake of it. Ultimately, it is content ‘marketing’. The purpose behind all kind of marketing is to sell your product or service. Conversion is always the main goal.

Therefore, have a clear idea of how it will help you. This does not mean that everything you do needs to contain a self-promotion in it. That can actually become very annoying and put people off. Instead you can use your content to establish your authority in the field.

It will encourage your customers to trust you and then when you offer a service they will know that this is a company that knows what they’re doing and will be more likely to convert.

#2- Analyze and revise

There are two types of revisions you have to be willing to undertake. The first is a revision of your strategy or approach towards the content you create. The second is revision of content that has already been created

You need to be willing to look at your performance and then see what isn’t working and get to the why. The best way to analyze your performance is by using Google analytics. See which pieces of content are doing well and which aren’t. Then try to figure out what the successful pieces have in common and vice versa.

Secondly, if you have already written a blog or piece on a topic that you wish to improve, go ahead and do it. A lot of times it happens that a piece that’s performing well needs updating. Instead of just letting it be, optimize it so that new visitors get updated information and your reputation improves.

#3- Cater to customers at different stages of their journey

The people who come across your brand or engage with it will all be at different stages of their customer journey.

One person might be hearing about your brand for the first time while another might be a returning customer.

You have to engage them both. Of course that might not be achievable through a single piece of writing or one infographic or video. The way to go about it then is to create different kinds of content. For example, if you are writing blogs you may write some with beginner level topics and others for more advanced topics.

You want to make sure your brand can be seen as being a relatable one no matter where the customer stands in their journey

#4- Repurpose old content

This is an offshoot of tip #2. If you have created engaging and well researched content in the past you can think of ways to reuse it.

The world of marketing and SEO is ever-changing. A practice that is highly recommended at one time might become obsolete in a couple of years. This can render old content redundant. It does not have to be like this though.

You can use parts of your previous content and make something new and interesting out of them. This saves time and since the original content was yours too, there’s no harm in using it again to attract new audience.

You can make it up to date and include new information.

It can be incredibly challenging to come up with topics that a big chunk of your audience will be interested in. This repurposing then can also make topic research easy for you.

#5- Quantify your efforts

Creating unlimited ads, blogs, videos is not the answer. While it is true that a great amount of content needs to be churned out by a business to keep the audience’s attention, it has to be done according to a plan.

You need to think about why you are doing what you are doing and what you hope to achieve through the content you are putting out.

Look at the numbers. How many views does your content get when you post a new blog post every week? What if you increase that number to 2 blogs per week? Try it and see if that yields better results and more impressions.

Have a schedule for how much you are going to put out and when you are going to do it. This is what is meant by having a content strategy. Find the one that resonates best with your target audience.

#6- Decide on a brand voice and stick to it

It is important to be clear about your brand identity. It will help you engage with your customers and build a relationship with them.

Successful branding helps distinguish you from others. It makes you recognizable. That is the best thing you could do for yourself- building a strong identity that helps the customer identify you.

You can see the way Wendy’s interacts with its customers on social media, or the way Spotify promotes itself using a youthful, relatable voice. These things all set them apart from their competition. If you can pick a brand’s advertisement out and attribute it to them without having to look at the logo, or if you can look at a piece of content and say it’s theirs, it means that business’s marketing team is doing a great job.

The first thing you need to do, however, is to make sure you are clear about what your brand stands for and what king of an image you want to create for it. Then stick to that voice and the brand identity consistently across all channels
